Before we dive in |
The AI infrastructure stack is repricing itself in real time. This month Anthropic pitched a $30 trillion TAM to pre-IPO investors (larger than U.S. GDP!) while OpenAI’s own Jalapeño chip outperformed Nvidia’s Blackwell on an inference benchmark, and DeepSeek is quietly raising at $74 billion ahead of a potential Shanghai IPO.
These three data points tell the same story: the compute layer is being disrupted from above (frontier labs building their own silicon to reduce Nvidia dependency) and from below (open-weight models that keep compressing the economics of inference for everyone else).
Our take for founders: when infrastructure reprices this fast, the assets that don’t move are what matters. Proprietary data, vertical depth, and customer relationships that aren’t tied to which model or chip is cheapest this month. The companies that will look smart in three years are those building something no foundation model can replace, not those riding the current wave of infrastructure valuations.
